What are you looking to do with it? I use EyeTV 250+. It records HD really well, although there is some blurring in motion scenes (probably due to de-interlacing). It handles ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM, though I have only recorded from ATSC. It also has an input to record from S-Video. It connects via USB and requires an AC Adapter. My only complaint is that it gets REALLY hot with extended use, so you need to unplug the power when done with it.
I heard that these burn out, so I bought an ultra-cheap 3-year extended warranty on it through Square Trade just in case. Recording is really easy. Click the program you want to record in the guide window and it's set. Manual and regular timer recording is easy too. EyeTV does not need to be running for timer record. I'm not sure if it will run EyeTV at the proper time or record in the background, but regardless it works. We only watch HD stuff from the local stations that are also broadcast in the clear and their DVR sucks so we can save $15 a month by getting rid of their box and also then cut down the stations we get to save some more $$$. I have a MM connected to our TV in the living room so it would have the tuner running off of it. I want dual tuners so we can record two shows at once on it. I used it for some time with EyeTV and had excellent results archiving and time-shifting HD broadcasts. I sold mine when I went Tivo HD last year but I recommend you look into it. However after June there will be no such over-air signals in the US.
